We raise funds to fight breast, cervical, ovarian cancers

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page, let me tell you why I have set myself this challenge and why I am supporting this event.

Just before my 40th birthday I noticed that a lump I had in my left breast and repeatedly had checked, changed in shape and feel. In September 2013, I was diagnosed with breast cancer, my tumour was aggressive but fortunately it had not, it seemed, spread. Following an initial mastectomy and reconstruction, I underwent six cycles of chemotherapy and further preventative surgeries (I have BRCA 2 and PIK3CA mutations). 4 years later a regional recurrence meant more surgery and intensive radiotherapy. 2 years after that, lung surgery and more chemo and just recently a scan showed I have lesions in the liver and spine so chemo will now be my new best friend forever.

The above is bad enough as a pt physically, but the emotional rollercoaster and impact on Rob and I and our three boys has been huge and something I would like to prevent any family having to go through.

4  years before I was diagnosed, I was categorically told by a consultant that my benign lump would never become cancerous and not to have it removed because it would change my body shape for no real reason. Well my body has well and truly taken a battering because of that advice and changed beyond recognition! We know ourselves better than anyone so get to know your own bodies and get anything untoward checked early AND don’t accept what you are told if you are still not sure. Follow it through, especially in the environment we currently find ourselves in.

Bearing in mind I have only ever cycled slowly for leisure, I now face a huge physical challenge of a different kind. Rob has agreed to do the cycle with me and train me. Let’s hope our marriage as well as each other make it over the finish line 🤣

If I can raise much needed funds for research to get better outcomes, this pain will be well worth it 😀

Wish us luck xxx

After such an amazing response and support having not only beaten but nearly doubled my target in less that 24 hours, I have increased it. Thank to all you wonderful people who have supported me xxx
