Story
The wonderful, beautiful, loving, generous, courageous Diane Wood sadly passed away on the 13th of April 2017.
As many of you know, she battled myeloma for over 7 years and in the end the years of treatment and the disease itself were too much for the body to cope with. Her mind and spirit remained strong throughout and the courage and tenacity with which she faced the disease were an example to us all.
We are desperately sad to lose Diane/Mum/Granny Di so soon, but are amazingly thankful for all the wonderful memories and for all she did to make us who we are today.
------
I (Pete Wood) wanted to do something more in memory of Mum, to raise a little extra in funds for Myeloma UK and to honour her memory. I've decided, possibly foolishly, to run the Great North Run 2017 (a half marathon, or 13.1 miles) with my best mate Nick Jellema and we'll be in fancy dress attempting to set a new Guinness World Record. The two of us will be dressed as Mario and Luigi from the Super Mario Bros video game - attempting to set the fastest half marathon dressed as a video game character (male). To be recognised as a new record we need to finish the run in less than 1h35mins - a fairly tough challenge in fancy dress.
For me, this attempt reminds me of my childhood which was a very happy (and quite silly) time thanks to Mum! Please consider a donation, if you haven't already, to encourage us in our efforts of dressing silly and doing a silly thing. I'm sure Mum would have approved.
------
We know she touched the lives of a lot of people and we are very thankful for the roles you all played in her life and for the wonderful support many of you gave both mum and us during the years of treatment.
Rather than sending flowers, we would like to encourage anyone that wants to mark this moment to remember her to make a donation through this page to Myeloma UK.
