Story
On New Year's Eve 2014 we will summit Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania in order to raise funds for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research ('LLR').
Mount Kilimanjaro is the tallest mountain in Africa and the tallest freestanding mountain in the world. We will be climbing 19,344 feet over 5 days without a toilet and/or shower in sight. Not to mention the plummeting temperatures to minus 25 degrees. Ouch!!
WHY?! We hear you ask....
We will be climbing in memory of Becca (Fran's sister) a resilient, unflinching, beautiful princess who fell victim to Hodgkin's Lymphoma after battling with the disease for a whole 3 years. She died at the inequitable age of 23 on New Year's Eve 2010. If you didn't know her then we can say with certainty that you would have admired her.
We will reach Kili's peak on 31 December 2014, which will be 4 years to the very day since we lost Princess Beccaloo.
LLR are leading the research into tailoring treatments for blood cancers rather than a 'one size fits all' approach. Every patient and victim will in future receive the individual treatment they require. Currently 30,000 people from babies to grandparents are diagnosed with blood cancer every year and with treatment around 8 in 10 patients now survive. Let's help make that 10 out of 10!
We are paying all the costs out of our own pockets, so that EVERY PENNY you sponsor will go directly towards helping LLR.
We'd appreciate it SO MUCH if you could dig deep and sponsor generously so that when you're enjoying your xmas pud and popping open the bubbles to welcome in the new year, our pain, sweat and tears will all be worthwhile!
So if you can skip tomorrow's latte and spare a couple of pounds then please do.
That's all folks....wish us luck!
Love and hugs, Mel and Fran xx
