We are a leading global youth charity here to help 12-25’s navigate the tough stuff.

Story

Feeling uncomfortable in your own skin is one of the worst ways to live. No-one deserves to feel judged by their appearance, whether that's by beauty standards or the colour of your skin. Prejudice can lead to self-hatred and even mental illness, and we want to change that.

That's why we're supporting Ditch the Label, one of the biggest anti-prejudice, anti-bullying charities in the UK. We're helping to raise money by doing something that seems small but is actually a big challenge: going a week without wearing make-up. We want to confront the idea that you have to change who you are in order to be loved - or to love yourself.

Rosanna: Putting make up on is just as much a part of most girl's routine than brushing their teeth or eating breakfast. For me, I wear make-up because it makes me feel more confident, but why should it?

It's unfair that society has created unrealistic ideals of beauty that many people feel forced to live up to. For this week I want to prove to myself that I don't need to plaster rubbish all over my face to feel more confident or happy, and show other girls that they can do the same.

Catrin: As someone with panic disorder and who's recovering from an eating disorder, I have a lot of appearance-based anxiety. My self-worth feels tied to what I look like, and I often can't leave my room without a full face of make-up. What better way to stick a middle finger up to these illnesses and insecurities than to prove that I don't need make-up to feel good about myself?

Kate: Like most young women, I find that the pressure to appear 'perfect' can be over-whelming. However, this is not just a female problem; men have similar insecurities and yet are discouraged from modifying their appearance because it's 'unmanly'. To me, a week without make-up feels like a good way to begin moving beyond these social constructs and misogynistic concepts in order to redefine beauty for all gender identities.
