We fund additional respite care in Oxon to children with life-limiting illness

Story

On Saturday June 22nd I am taking on a massive challenge to Skydive from 13,000 feet (I have a fear of heights and flying)! This challenge is to help raise money for ROSY (Respite Nursing for Oxfordshire’s Sick Youngsters). ROSY are completely public funded and every penny raised goes towards paying for the 12 Nurses and Healthcare Assistants, equipment for the youngsters, creating opportunities to bring families together and making life easier for families with sick children.

The ROSY Nurses have been fantastic and have helped and supported my family over the last 11 months when my son Oliver was diagnosed with Sarcoma, a soft tissue cancer on the spine. The Nurses came and supported him 3 mornings a week and this enabled myself and my husband to carry on working. Oliver sadly passed away peacefully on the 21st May.

Oliver’s Story

In August 2010 when he was 6 years old he was diagnosed with a very aggressive brain tumour and immediately underwent major surgery to remove the tumour. The operation was successful, and he received a further 6 weeks of radiotherapy followed by a further 8 months of chemotherapy. In April 2011 Oliver was given the all clear and went on and had an amazing 7 years, within this time he had been on some great holidays including Italy, France and Australia and one of the best times of his life was when he went to watch Manchester United play at Old Trafford.

Then a bombshell hit us, Oliver was in Year 10 at the Warriner, just about to start his GCSE’s when he began to get back ache, nothing major just a niggle which got progressively worse over a few weeks and in June 2018 he was yet again diagnosed with Cancer. Unfortunately, there was no cure for this type of cancer, so he took  each day as it came and enjoyed life to the max.  Oliver took up photography and enjoyed taking photos of nature and the countryside, he also enjoyed poetry and writing poems about food.

It would be wonderful if you could support me on https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/donna-boyles so ROSY can continue to do the brilliant work they do.

Thank you for your support!

Kind regards,

Donna
