Karl Wilkinson of Kirkby Stephen has got together a team of five named 'The Animals!' to take part in the Rotary Club of Penrith SWIMATHON on Saturday 2nd February to raise money for EAR. Karl suffers from Cerebral Palsy and due to this only has use of his upper body to swim and feels very strongly about helping the dogs with restricted limbs, therefore, the money raised will be used for dogs in our care with special needs.
There are two dogs currently in our care that need hydrotherapy sessions; Sky is a three year old German Shepard who came to us in October 2018, she has neurological deficits which means she isn't aware of what her back legs are doing. Kai (pictured) is a nine year old Staffy, who has been with us since April 2017 making him one of our longest staying residents; after two major operations on his ankle joint and ligaments, Kai now needs to undergo hydrotherapy to strengthen the muscles in his leg so he can use it properly again. If there is excess money raised from the swim, it will go on to help other animals that may come into the rescue that need special care.
Thank you for your support!
