Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I originally set this page up to help fund-raise for the London to Brighton 100km walk that I was planning to walk May last year along with some other mad, sorry plucky, young widows in aid of the amazing charity WAY Widowed and Young.

After signing up for the 100km I (stupidly) didn't think it was challenge enough so in addition to the main event I'll now be taking part in three other "ultra-marathons" during the year, another 100km along the Thames from Putney to Henley, a 80km (50 mile) and 64km (40 mile)  - all of which are rather hilly and will see me walking through the day and at least into the evening, or following morning.

I'll be walking each of these walks (apart from the monthly challenge) continuously, so once I start I won't be stopping, apart from food and drink and a quick rest, until I get to the end. No sleeping, no snoozing, I'll be walking from start to finish only taking my boots off to change my socks (and maybe check for blisters!)

Should Coronavirus cause any of the events below to be cancelled or postponed I'll either walk it on the new date, take part in the same event in 2022 or alternatively find another event of the same distance/similar incline.

WAY is an amazing charity and has really helped me through my grief and has done for sooo many other young widows. If you can, please give generously.

The peer to peer support that WAY provides when you've suddenly found yourself in the darkest days of your life is invaluable and worth it's weight in gold.

2021

London to Brighton 100km/3,400ft (May 29th/30th) A Richmond start by the Thames – then the North Downs and wonderful Surrey & Sussex countryside to halfway at Turners Hill. The 100km route heads up and over the South Downs before the welcome sight of the Brighton coastline comes in to view where we finish at the race course. Completed in 27 hours and 58 minutes!

Hallow 12 Parish Challenge 64km (July 10th)  Starting in the picturesque village of Hallow, you will walk through the parishes of Hallow, Grimley, Little Witley, Hillhampton, Shrawley, Astley & Dunley, Abberley, Great Witley, Shelsley Beauchamp, Martley, Wichenford and Broadheath. The route is mainly off road & covers some of the best countryside that Worcester has to offer.

Shropshire 80km/6,500ft (August 14/15th ) Every year, runners and walkers from all over the UK and beyond descend on Shropshire to take part in a personal challenge through this fascinating and beautiful area. All the routes are hilly and take you over some of the iconic Shropshire Hills summits and iron-age hillforts, along ancient drovers routes and through ancient forests and delightful market towns. Completed in 24 hours 50 minutes - ouch that was a tough one!

Thames Path Challenge - Putney to Henley 100km / 1,148ft (September 11th/12th)  This route follows the meandering waterway to Hampton Court, onto Runnymede of Magna Carta Fame, and eventually onto Henley-on-Thames – home of the regatta – to a fabulous celebration finish.. The route is our flattest of all the series, along path & terrain and will test your legs, hips & feet – but you will be rewarded with 100 km of beautiful scenery and historic villages & towns.

Note: I was originally taking part in "Afoot in two Dales 80km" in July and the "South Coast Challenge 100km" in September but due to date changes and cancellations have swapped to the Hallow 12 and Thames Path instead.
