We connect, train and equip 'catalysts' to drive community-led change

Story

As part of World Book Day on 4th March 2021, EduSpots is fundraising to buy more African fiction and non-fiction, alongside much requested text books for our Spots across Ghana.

African books are the most requested by our communities and although our Spots also greatly value some western donations (hence our book drives) it is so important that the Spots provide a genuinely diverse range of books and don't feed into propagating a Western-centric literary canon.

We believe that readers of all ages, especially children, should be able to see themselves in the characters they read about and be able to relate to the experiences shared. It is this connection with books that sparks a life-long love of reading and learning; we want our spots to be centres that enable this for as many people as possible.

All money raised here will go towards buying books for our communities.

Here is some feedback from previous donations of African books:

“Unlike the past when students were having difficulty accessing learning materials, the supply of locally authored textbooks to the library is a dream come true,” remarked Mr. Alhassan Hamza, a teacher and unit community Chair of the Kalpohin community.

EduSpots is an educational movement which connects, trains, and equips educational ‘catalysts’ to drive the creation of sustainable educational projects. Our vision is of a world in which communities unite to create the future they want to see.We have supported 300 educational catalysts in 40 communities in creating community-led education ‘spots’, powered by solar, whilst nurturing reflection on sustainable development and leading programmes in practical STEM and literacy development. Roughly 15,000 learners have been positively impacted.

Our model is low-cost and high impact. We will be sharing stories from our communities on a regular basis on @eduspots on Twitter and Facebook. Any questions or suggestions, email me on cdavison@eduspots.org.
