Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am raising funds for the Rowans Hospice in memory of my husband Giles who was diagnosed with Cancer of the Oesophagus in September 2015. Despite chemotherapy, major surgery and a very brave fight, the cancer spread and he died in April 2016 in the Rowans. He was 54 years old. Myself and our sons, Alex and Josh, are devastated at the loss of such a special and precious husband and father. We love him so very much and miss him every day.
In honour of this inspirational and caring man, who lived life to the full, I will be cycling 450 kms from Vietnam to Cambodia. By undertaking this cycle ride, I also hope to recognise the part played by the Rowans in caring for Giles over his final few days. When we were given the most terrible news that Giles only had a few weeks to live, frantic efforts were made to secure him a place at the Rowans so that he could receive the specialist palliative care he needed in a place of his choosing. He spent his last few days there, in relative comfort and dignity, surrounded by his family. For this the Rowans will always hold a very special place in my heart.
I will be self funding the trip costs, so all of the money donated will go to the hospice. I will keep this page updated with progress on my fundraising efforts, training endeavours and the trip itself.
Our son Alex is also raising money for the Rowans by undertaking the 100 km Thames Challenge Walk in September. Giles was training for this walk when he had the car accident and then his cancer diagnosis. Alex is hoping to finish the challenge his father started. Please support him as well if you can.
Together we are 'Team Cowling'. You can read our team page by clicking on the link below under the photos. The team page will also take you to Alex's page.
I know Giles would be so proud of us.
Thank you, Eileen
