THE BACK STORY

I was supposed to be running Marathon des Sables in April 2020, which was postponed to September 2020, and then cancelled all together.

I refuse to let all that training go to waste so instead this September I am going to run the Thames Path covering a distance of almost 300km or 7 marathons in 7 days COME AND JOIN ME! Details below...

Through this escapade I will raise funds for SolarAid. SolarAid tackles climate change by replacing kerosene lamps with solar lighting. 20% of the world’s population – some 1.3 billion people - lacks access to electricity and relies on kerosene wick lamps which burn inefficiently releasing pure black carbon particles, or soot. The particles only stay in the atmosphere for around 2 weeks but in those 2 weeks 1kg of black carbon causes as much global warming as 700kg of CO2 would in 100 years. The collective effect of 1.3 billion people’s reliance on this fuel is immense.

The good news is that because black carbon only lingers in the atmosphere for about two weeks,  eradicating it addresses global warming with almost immediate effect. It is low hanging fruit in the climate change battle – a good place to start if, in the words of Greta Thunberg, we are to act ‘like the house is on fire’.

There is so much more to this than I can fit in a small box so follow me on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/ella.kiddell) and Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/ellalkcollins/) for updates.

JOIN ME ON THE THAMES PATH

Let's collectively stick two fingers up to coronavirus and prove there’s life in 2020 yet! Join me for a section of the Thames Path – as much or as little as you want, however you want - on foot, bike, paddleboard, kayak, whatever! Help me fundraise for SolarAid or use it to raise money for your own charity and let’s have a huge en masse effort to claw back some of the funds that charities have missed out on this year through cancelled events.

All the details including timings, adresses etc are on a Google sheet. If you'd like it please email me - ellalkcollins@gmail.com.

Thank you for your support and love to you all. We'll get there...
