Im running the 2019 London Marathon for the charity Mind. My mum is the inspiration behind this run as recently (as im sure not many of you know as shes been so amazingly positive), she has had quite a rough time mentally.

Alot of things were going on which meant mum was extremely stressed out which in turn meant she was feeling very alone and very down. In the end suffered a breakdown which meant she was unable to stay at home with us as she needed time and space to heal mentally. Mind is a charity that could have really supported my mum but sadly mental health is such a ‘brushed under the carpet’ issue neither me nor my mum knew about it. It is only since ive had this experience with my mum that ive begin to look in to the work that such charities do and it is literally so amazing!

My mum is my bestfriend and is so so important to me so to think that she went through so much, feeling so alone is the worst feeling any child can experience. People who suffer from the likes of depression tend to have a mask: one side is kept hidden while the other side is projected to the rest of us. Now the side of the mask we see is usually the joyful, positive, optimistic side. While this flip side of the mask many people keep private and its usually the side that isnt so positive or optimistic. People are therefore scared to show this side, and scared to speak their problems and get help from loved ones.

 Mum is now thankfully back to her usual bubbly beautiful self and is home! We as a family are stronger than ever as we have now learnt the hard way that feelings must be discussed and we must show people how much we love them. 

Sadly not many people are as lucky as me.

Mental health is something that needs to be spoken about as it is such a big part of our society. Many many people suffer from depression and feel they have to keep it all in. Thats why a charity like Mind is so important! Its why im asking you all to help me on my mission to raise £2000 as i run 26 miles in a couple of months!
