Ellie & Laurie are 8 years old twins who were born premature and both suffer from Cerebral Palsy.
The outlook for the future was for them to be in a wheelchair for the rest of their lives, taking muscle relaxant medication and have constant Botox injection to help relieve pain & muscle tightness.
With the help of friends, family and complete strangers we were able to raise enough funds to send them both to St Louis Childrens Hospital in America where they underwent SDR & orthopaedic surgery.
Both kids started to learn to walk with aids within a few weeks of the surgery and they have continued improving. Every week since surgery they have done daily exercises, weekly physio therapy & strengthening of the muscles as well as block intense physio 3/4 times a year.
With this level of aftercare, both kids should be able to continue walking for the rest of their lives & be able to leave their wheelchairs, crutches and walking frames behind them.
At present we are hoping to raise funds to allow us to return to St Louis Hospital for further orthopaedic interventions as their feet are badly effected and require to be put into the correct position.
Since SDR the children have recieved very little help or assistance from our local NHS board towards their ongoing therapy, therefore their progress so far is all down to the generosity of people willing to help support to very hard working & determined brave children.
As well as the cost of the above we also have the cost of the ongoing therapy & strength work, including specialist equipment & supportive orthotic footwear and leg splints.
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page and should we exceed the target amount (or if we do not raise enough funds, or if they cannot be used for any other reason) the funds raised will go to the general funds of Tree of Hope to assist other sick children.
