Story

As more than 100 bushfires rage across NSW and Queensland,  thousands of hectares of bushland is being destroyed, devastating the habitat of native Australian animals.

350 Koalas alone are estimated to have died in the Port Macquarie region, being burnt alive by the fires and desperately seeking shelter. Port Macquarie previously had one of the healthiest koala populations in the state- over half of this is now gone.

Many more Koalas are predicted to die after the bushfires as they struggle to find homes, food and water, and their habitat continues to decline due to farming and industry.

A spokesman from the NSW Nature Conservation Council has said Koala's will be extinct by 2050 if this rate of Koala decline continues.

Koalas are not the only animals affected by fire; birds, possums, gliders and wallabies are also victims of the current fires, and come seeking shelter severely dehydrated and often burnt.

Your support literally helps save lives as WIRES rescues and cares for the thousands of animals affected by the bushfires- at this moment donating to help WIRES provide emergency care to wildlife is the single most effective thing you can do to help Australian animals.

Thank you.
