Story

Hey there! I’m Emilie and I’m raising £250 to support the NHS staff and volunteers to help fight the Covid-19 pandemic. As you already know, coronavirus has put the NHS and its staff under a huge amount of pressure.

Prizes will be new, unopened skincare products from leading skincare brands and they'll be great for men or women! Why this fundraising is necessary

Coronavirus has put a huge amount of pressure on NHS workers.

Staff are having to make difficult choices everyday, putting themselves at risk of contracting the virus to help Covid19 patients. There’s also a shortage of personal protection equipment in the NHS which protects them so they can safely do their job.

Right now, the NHS is being maxed out and there's not enough beds for patients. Doctors are coming out of retirement to help with this pandemic. And sadly, as of 12th of April, 19 NHS workers have died as result of coronavirus due to increased exposure to the virus.

With all of this happening, I’ve chosen to do a fundraising raffle for NHS Charities Together. Every pound will go to helping NHS Staff and volunteers.

How donations will help the NHS and its staff and volunteers

  • It will support NHS Staff and volunteers with well-being packs/gifts for staff and volunteers on wards/departments (this could include food deliveries, high energy/protein bars/drinks, snacks, refreshments, wash kits, overnight stay kits
  • It will support NHS Staff and volunteers with the cost of travel, parking, accommodation
  • Volunteers help alleviate the pressure off the NHS workers so funds will be used for volunteer expenses
  • It will support isolated patients through providing devices to communicate with friends and family whilst in hospital or isolating
  • In the long term, funds will help provide mental and rehabilitation of NHS staff, volunteers, patients and carers after the pandemic is over.
  • Donations also support NHS patients to leave hospital quickly and safely and to remain or stay out of hospital

Why am I doing this?

Not many people know this about me but the NHS saved my life in 2013. When I was first fell sick with my autoimmune condition, I was in a terrible amount of pain all of the time, a lot of the time I was crawled up in a ball and sometimes I even blacked out from it. I was in so much pain that I couldn't even sleep and dropped 10% of my weight in 24 hours. I was in and out of my local NHS hospital going to different appointments, blood tests, scans and procedures for months. Even though I was alone going through some really scary or uncomfortable procedures, the NHS staff always did a great job of looking after me emotionally too. I remember one nurse from the Philippines who helped me through one particular procedure. She was really lovely to me like an auntie- talking to me to distract me and she even held my hand throughout the entire thing. I was pretty weak after the procedure so I never got the chance to really thank her properly. This is just one example of the amazing work that all doctors and nurses do at the NHS on a daily basis. I'm sure you have your own personal stories of how the NHS has helped you or a family member or friend.

It took me awhile but I got better under the care of the NHS. I was able to slowly return to being myself again but hopefully a little better, a little braver version of myself :) And for that, I'm eternally grateful for the NHS and its staff. As my condition is chronic, I still go back regularly as an outpatient for blood tests and routine check-ups. It also means that I'm just one of the 1.5 million vulnerable people in the UK at risk of being in a critical condition because of coronavirus.

It got me thinking that I wanted to personally contribute in a really small way to NHS Charities Together and I personally invite you to support the NHS Staff too!

How you can help too!

I know it’s a really hard time for everyone right now having to stay at home when it’s sunny. But while we’re staying at home to avoid Covid-19, the NHS Staff are out there on the frontline fighting it so that we can have our normal lives back. To me and you, it may feel like we're not able to do anything, but we can still help from home too.

It's super easy to donate to this fundraising campaign and help NHS workers. All you have to do is click the 'Donate' button and make your donation.

Although not everyone can win a prize, I hope that you can join me and support them in a small way too. Knowing that we had a small contribution to help support the NHS and its staff is probably the best prize of all.

“Small change can make a huge difference”

Due to the lockdown, I can only send prizes to UK addresses. If you’re not based in the UK but you still want to support, you can still donate and know that you are helping save the NHS. I’m going to personally thank each and every person who donates and I wish you a safe time at home. As I have a quite small network, it would be mean the world to me if you could share this fundraising page with your friends, families or colleagues too! Thank you very much for your time and donation.

Love Emilie x
