Story

Hi I'm Emily

I'm running the Junior GNR in memory of my Dad Steven Thomas Dunn who I sadly lost on 21st December 2010.

I'd like to tell you a but about my Dad.  He was absolutely Newcastle Utd daft. Other than his love for Newcastle he lived for being in the Army.  He joined up pretty much straight out of school, it was all he ever wanted to do.  He got his dream posting at 216 (Parachute) Signals Squadron and he undertook a number of overseas deployments including tours of Iraq, Afghanistan and Kenya.  His biggest career achievement was completing P- Company an extremely challenging recruitment and selection course.  Once he successfully completed this he gained his "wings" allowing him to jump out of planes, it's what he was meant to do.  He was a dedicated soldier`.

I will never forget the 21st December 2010, it was the day we were told he had been killed.  He was attached to 2 Para and while out on an operation the Jackal vehicle he was travelling in went over an IED.  He was killed instantly and was the only fatality that day.  I was 6 years old at the time and now 8 years later I'm still grieving to this day.

My mum signed me up to Scotty's Little Soldiers which was set up by Nikki Scott following the loss of her husband Cpl Lee Scott. The charity is dedicated to helping bereaved forces children whether or not their parents were lost in combat.  Their mission is to #HelpTheirChildrenSmile.

Scotty's has three main help streams including Smiles - giving children a UK breaks, Christmas Parties and gift vouchers at those times when we really need cheered up, birthdays, Christmas and Remembrance day.  There is also "support" and "Strides" - where we get an allowance for activities, I use mine for Kick Boxing.

I'd like to raise as much money as possible to give back to Scotty's which has helped me so much!  Please dig deep and wish me luck on 7th September 2019!

Thanks

Emily x
