We raise life-changing funds to enhance care at UHS

Story

Last year it was just a normal night shift ... Turned up at work , Gemma was coming in , expecting her first baby. So far... Nothing out of the ordinary.

But her baby was breech, as a midwife we know what to do in the event of a breech birth and how to manage it.

At that moment when I realised her baby was breech, time stood still.. but Gemma was a stong, determined woman with the support of Scott, ( her partner), Linda (the maternity support worker),  Chrissie (the student midwife) and Sophie (the other midwife)... Finally Esmae was born.

Esmae needed more help than some babies, it all seemed to be a bad dream going to the hospital in the ambulance , just saying to her to live and not give up, with Chrissie keeping me from rolling round the ambulance and holding onto any sign that Esmae just might be ok. 🙏

I felt that I'd lost everything in that moment. How could I be a midwife if Esmae didn't live, I just didn't know how I could ever work again. I was devestated.

I was so relieved when they ambulance doors opened and the neonatal unit staff were waiting for us and said ' last round of CPR and then we'll take her to the neonatal unit'

The doctors, paramedics, nurses were all amazing. ✨

Thank you all for saving beautiful Esmae who I see as often as I can and gets more sassy by the minute!

She is an amazing little girl and a credit to her parents and her family. I hope to always be a part of her life.

So.... Fast forward to now and here we are!

Esmae's special mum and I, jumping out of a plane next April to raise as much money as we can for the neonatal unit at Southampton to carry on all the fabulous work they do for all the other babies like Esmae

Let's smash the target!!
