Story
I've signed up to do the swimathon this year to try and get myself back into a good state of fitness and hopefully be able to start swimming again. Many who know me will be aware that I've had endless health issues over the past few years which have prevented me from doing the things I love (swimming). I want to prove to myself that my health problems don't define me, and with gradual exercise, I'll be able to build up my fitness to be able to participate in the 2.5k swimathon challenge. I plan on training at least once a week and trying to build up the lengths I'm able to do. At the moment I'm only managing about 20 which is basically nothing compared to what I used to do! It would be amazing if I could get some support for this challenge as it will be incredibly tough with everything that's going on. I really want to be able to complete this challenge as it will mean the world to me. I'll keep this page updated with how I'm doing in training etc.
A bit about the swimathon in general:
On the 27th - 29th March, over 21,000 swimmers will be heading down to over 600 pools across the UK to raise money for our two amazing charity partners.
Cancer Research UK, the world’s leading cancer charity is dedicated to saving lives through funding research to help prevent, diagnose and treat cancer. Cancer Research UK is the only charity fighting over 200 cancer types but don't receive any government funding for their work, so their progress is all thanks to the support of people like you.
Marie Curie provides expert care, guidance and support for people living with any terminal illness, and their families. Around 2,100 Marie Curie Nurses work day and night, in people’s homes all over the UK, providing hands-on care to people when they need it most.
Together we can really make a difference. We invite our swimmers to tell their story to help spread awareness and raise vital funds for these two incredible causes.
Thank you for reading, and don't forget, every single donation (big or small) helps!
