On the 14th May 2022, I will be doing a self-funded skydive, as this has been on my bucket list for a long time. I have chosen to do this to raise money for Versus Arthritis, a charity which has become close to me this past year.

At the beginning of 2021, my brother James was diagnosed with Psoriatic Arthritis at the age of 22.

Many people think that arthritis is an 'old person's disease' and only elderly people suffer from it. This is completely untrue.

Psoriatic arthritis is caused by a problem with the body's immune system where it mistakenly attacks healthy cells. It affects people in many different ways from stiffness, pain, throbbing, swelling and tenderness in joints, reduced range of movement and morning stiffness and tiredness. But there are so many more ways it affects people.

I've experienced it second hand how hard it is for people with arthritis to get up on a morning and go about their day like everyone else. It takes so much, mentally and physically, to be able to live a normal life with this disease. Everyday things like taking our dog, Megan, for a walk became unbearable as his body was trying to fight himself.

For James, his arthritis started as a pain in his toe which quickly spread to almost everywhere in his body. Day to day things that were normal for everyone else, became 100 times harder for him. Seeing him in so much pain and struggling to do everyday things upset me. I would do absolutely anything to take away all his pain, and I wouldn't wish it upon anyone. 

That is why I decided to raise money for Versus Arthritis, they support people with any type of arthritis so they don't feel alone battling the disease and they also invest in breakthrough treatments and hopefully finding a cure.
