Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

As Lady Captain I am fortunate to be able to raise money for a chosen charity throughout my captaincy year.  With women's safety at the forefront of our minds at the moment it seems even more relevant that I have chosen Somerset and Avon Rape and Sexual Abuse Support (SARSAS) for my Lady Captain's charity in 2021.

Statistics can be boring but when you realise that 20% of women will suffer some form of sexual violence in their life you realise it is a big problem. SARSAS work with mainly women and girls aged 13 years and over. In 2020 they also launched an older women's project for women 55 years and over, their oldest client so far being 84 years old so it isn't just a problem for younger women as you might think.

SARSAS is a local charity whose ethos is to LISTEN, BELIEVE and SUPPORT, something we can all relate to. They  support victims by offering a confidential helpline, regular support sessions, counselling, web-chat and email support to individuals. They also offer training and support to individuals and also support the friends and family of people affected by sexual violence.

Eve Bolton is 76 year old lady member of Enmore Park Golf Club.  Since lockdown, when she has been unable to play golf Eve has enjoyed many cycle rides on her electric bicycle and has  kindly offered to undertake a sponsored cycle ride in aid of SARSAS.  She will be cycling from her home in Stogumber,  for 7 miles, on 7 different routes on 7 consecutive days over very hilly but beautiful terrain into the countryside, weather permitting from the  22nd March - 28th March 2021.

This will be quite an achievement and Eve plans to share a photograph with us each day so we can see where her ride has taken her. The photographs will be posted on this page by way of a daily update.

I am very grateful to Eve for coming up with the idea and for raising money for my charity. I wish her every success.
