Story

A few years ago, many of you supported us in our mission to complete the London Triathalon for The Alzheimer's Society. We were, and remain, incredibly grateful. It became apparent to Harold as he rode his bike with two flat tyres and only one pedal around East London that our friends and family were very happy to part with their money in order to have us do something daft and unpleasant for a good cause. So, this year we are doing it again.

However, not just another jaunt around the docklands for a few hours in the late summer sun. No, no! This year, we've gone big. And it is going to hurt.

In July, we will be departing our lovely, basically flat city of London and travelling to unforgiving, hill-filled France with just our bikes, unprepared thighs and a sense of adventure. We are participating in the Etape Du Tour 2018. For the uninformed, which included us at the time of booking (and to be fair, still does) this is a gruelling 169 km ride through the Alps involving a total climb of some 4,100 m. It is essentially like cycling to Birmingham, if Birmingham were atop Mt. Blanc. In fact, the route will make up the 10th stage of the 2018 Tour De France so it probably going to be quite tricky. It is also outside and in July. Given that Harold thinks London in April is too warm, this is likely to pose a problem.

Something else that is proving to be quite tricky is fighting cancer. It is a sad fact today that most families, including our own, don't have to reach far for a story involving the most unpleasant of C-words. In our case, it was our mum. Fortunately, Mum beat hers but we know of many others who were not so lucky or continue to fight it. So, it is with these people in mind that we have chosen to support Macmillan and will try to raise as much money as possible to help rid this world of cancer for good!

Thank you for your support.
