Story

As a few of you may know, I live with a chronic mental health condition - one which nearly took my life in my late teens and for which I received lifesaving treatment thanks to my family, friends and the NHS. 13 years later, I'm living a life I (and medical professionals) never thought I would and managing my condition the same as any other chronic health issue.

As a teacher in a society where NHS support for young people's mental health has been cut to the bone, I see too many young people suffering without any viable treatment. If I was as ill as I was when I was 16-17 now, I'm not sure I would have survived. Young Minds help to plug that gap and it's a charity I believe in so strongly. I'm training for this alongside my form, who I've been with for 5 years - they're prepping for GCSE, I'm being accountable with my aching limbs.

I'm not a runner. I hate running. I would far rather be on the sofa with some wine and cheese. I go an alarming colour when I run and the proudest moment of my training so far has been overtaking a birdwatcher and not falling in a pothole. This is the first organised run I have EVER done and I've decided to start with the big one. Idiot.

This is going to be a bloody hard slog for me and every penny will keep me going through the painful dark miles where I want to sit down and sob that I can't do it. Please help me by chucking some money my way and coming to join me on April 26th if you can!

I'm joining the fight for young peoples mental health by taking on 26.2 miles of the UK's Capital for the 2020 Virgin Money London Marathon! YoungMinds is the UK's leading charity fighting for children and young people's mental health. Turning real life experiences into positive change, we are leading the fight for a future where all young minds are supported through life, whatever the challenges.
