Alternative fundraising ideas
Stuck for inspiration? Worried that you won’t be able to get the donations you need in for the London marathon? We’re here to help! Here’s some ideas that other London marathon fundraisers have used to smash their targets!
1. Employer donation matching
Speak to your employer to find out if they’re willing to match the donations you receive with a corporate donation. Most companies will have a CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) scheme that will enable you to do this. Find out more here
2. Celebrate your training milestones
Use your training milestones as a good place to make another ‘ask’ for donations. Share photos and updates to tell people how you’re going, and how you’re improving
3. Get your pals involved
Ask your friends to be your support team, helping you share your updates and your page to their social media. The more engagement your posts have (guaranteed shares and likes) the more people will see your posts!
4. Guess my time
Create a sweepstakes among your friends allowing them to guess your marathon time in return for donations. You can pledge to give the closest guess a special dinner as a reward
5. Host a bake sale
Get baking and sell your wonderful creations to your friends in return for donations. See if you can get a table at a village fete or gathering, and seize the opportunity to promote your fundraising in person.
6. Hold a movie night
Get Netflix fired up, invite your friends over, and have a fun movie night in return for some donations to your page.
7. Stream your gaming
We've made it easy to live stream your video gaming on Twitch. Organise a Fifa tournament or go online with PUBG, you can take donations from your twitch stream thanks to Livestream Fundraising on JustGiving.
8. Host a quiz or raffle
Create a fun event to support your fundraising by hosting a pub quiz or organising a raffle. Take donations as entries and offer up a nice prize to one lucky winner.
9. Get your co-workers involved
You spend most of your time at work, and most workplaces have an all-employee email list right? Use that to help you to organise workplace fundraising drives. Coffee mornings, raffles, sweepstakes and challenges are all options for ways your co-workers can get involved.
10. Sponsor a song
This might test your patience but… tell your friends that you will do your training runs for a week to a single song on repeat, and the highest bidder gets to choose which song it is. Cue ‘Africa’ by Toto for 2 hours every day 😱
