Our Story

I am attempting to trek to Everest Basecamp in Nepal, raising money for GENETIC DISORDERS UK, a charity with the stated aim of improving the lives of individuals and families affected by genetic disorders.
This is of particular emphasis to myself & my family following the unexpected diagnosis we received of our daughters incredibly rare genetic condition.

In early January 2015, our lovely daughter Evie was born. However, within less than a day of meeting her for the first time, we were rocked with the news she had been born with a terminal, incredibly rare genetic condition called RCDP Type-3. Evie is 1 of only 4 children in the UK with this condition, there being as few as only 40 documented cases in the world. For Evie, this has meant numerous planned & unplanned hospital visits & tests. For us, her family, this has meant living with the knowledge that at some point in the future, we will lose her. The GENETIC DISORDERS UK website was the first port of call for us, in trying to understand & come to terms with the terrible news we had received. I am happy to say that after countless emotional peaks & troughs, we have finally as a family reached our own personnel summit. Because of this & my daughter Evie, and the help offered by GENETIC DISORDERS UK, I am preparing to undertake a trek to Everest Basecamp, in honor of Evie & all the individuals that have offered support.

The trek involves flying into a remote mountain airstrip at Lukla (2652m, 8700ft), trekking through the Himalayan foothills to Everest Basecamp (5357m, 17575ft), a summit attempt of Kalapatthar peak (5647m, 18527ft) before returning to Lukla. Vastly ranging temperatures are expected, from 20⁰C during the day, to lows of -10⁰C at night. We are camping during the trek, so conditions will be very basic.

Please if possible give generously in support of Evie to GENETIC DISORDERS UK to ensure they can continue their fantastic work via my JustGiving fundraising page. Alternatively, to donate you can fill in your details & donation amount on the attached sponsorship form.

Thank you

Pete, Evie & Family
