Sock It to Eating Disorders 2019
Campaign by Beat (RCN 801343)
Sock It to Eating Disorders takes place every year during eating disorders awareness week when hundreds of Beat supporters across the country take part in fundraising activities to take a stand against eating disorders.

Story

I am socking it to eating disorders to raise funds, challenge stigma and change lives by knitting a mini sock every day in February. I will then leave them all around Bristol during Eating Disorder Awareness Week (25th Feb – 3rd March), with notes inside to raise awareness and offer encouragement to anyone fighting an ED - a ‘Message in a Sock’ if you like :)

As some of you know I am in recovery from anorexia nervosa, an illness which has pretty much turned my life upside down in the last year. I am extremely grateful for the support from my family, friends and care team in the NHS to fight my eating disorder, and I don’t know where I would be now without it.

Eating disorders take many forms and can affect anyone of any gender, age or background; I have met some of the most kind, funny, clever, talented, creative, brave and generous people whose lives have also been kidnapped by eating disorders. Due to lack of awareness, social stigma and lack of funding many people do not receive the support or treatment they need and deserve, especially if they don't fit into the stereotypes.

Beat’s work to raise awareness, provide support to sufferers and carers, and campaign for better access to treatment is so important. Their resources and services have helped me in many ways on this isolating, scary, but now also hopeful, journey. So thank you for all donations of any size, helping me to raise money for Beat and support others in their battles against Eating Disorders.
