The First Touch team is embarking on an ambitious project to revamp the Expressing Room at the neonatal unit.
The Expressing Room is a private space with cubicles where mums can express breast milk for their poorly and premature babies who are unable to breast feed and are fed their mum's precious milk via tube. The health advantages of breast milk are well documented, and we want to make the room as comfortable and welcoming as possible, to help all mums to express their milk.
Feedback also tells us that this space is where mums chat with each other and share stories, updates and news. Anyone who has spent time in the Expressing Room knows what a vital role it plays in the daily lives of mums, who use it three or four times a day.
We plan to buy new furniture, new breast pumps, new specialist seating, and, if possible, to reconfigure the room to best utilise the space available. We'll paint the walls in a harmonious colour and decorate the room. We'll ensure the new cubicle partitions are bright and cheerful. We hope to improve the wifi reception in the room. We'd like to see new flooring. We want to do all we can to make this room as comfortable and welcoming as it can be.
If you are able to make a donation towards this project we would be extremely grateful.
Because healthy, happy mums are better able to help their babies at such a stressful time.
