Being two big guys, the prospect of cycling nearly 200km in 12 hours is pretty daunting, but nowhere near as daunting as somebody facing the thought of battling prostate cancer. We lost Joe’s Grandad, David, to this horrible disease when Joe was 6 years old. While his memory of David isn't particularly strong, we know that he was a brilliant person who didn't deserve to go through the hell that he did, nor do any of the other men who face prostate cancer. The hard truth of what this cancer is doing to men in the UK is highlighted in these few bullet points, taken from the Prostate Cancer UK website:
.Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men.
.Over 47,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer every year – that's 129 men every day.
.Every 45 minutes one man dies from prostate cancer – that's more than 11,000 men every year.
.1 in 8 men will get prostate cancer in their lifetime.
.Over 330,000 men are living with and after prostate cancer
If we can contribute even slightly towards developing a cure for Prostate Cancer, we will be happy to be part of the change. Please donate what you feel you can, no matter how big or small, every donation matters.
Thanks a lot for taking the time to read this... we're off to train!
