Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

Matt says:  I lost my mum from an early(ish) age and I know first hand how important it is to have friends and family around you at that time. However, I was also fortunate enough to benefit from counselling and a support scheme.

Jigsaw (South East) does just that by supporting bereaved children, young people and their families who have been affected by the death or illness of a family member. Whether its £1 or £20 I can’t really put into words how much it could help young children and help shape their present and future. So please, donate away.

Alex says: After being made aware of the work that Jigsaw does and having lost my dad at a relatively young age, I can fully understand the key support that Jigsaw provides to young people (and their surrounding family), that perhaps don’t have the everyday support needed to help express their emotions and control them in a way that enables them to come to terms with their circumstances and help families move forward together.

Tony saysJigsaw recently came in to our office and presented on all the amazing things they do for bereaved children and families. The counseling, support and activities they offer are vital to those who have suffered a loss and any donation you could make will make a real difference .On a personal note is my first marathon (or race of any kind) and any support you could give would be amazing as I need all the encouragement I can get!

Raising money for Jigsaw through taking on the challenge of running a marathon alongside our other work as an office is something I’m very proud to be a part of.

Every 22 minutes, a child in the UK is bereaved of a parent

. The death or serious illness of a family member can be devastating and bring many challenges into the life of a young person. The impact of bereavement can have a major impact on children’s home life, school and friendships. It may also affect their health, behaviour and ability to cope in school.

Jigsaw (South East) works throughout #Surrey and #Sussex providing grief support to children and young people who have experienced the death of a significant family member. The charity also supports families facing the devastating loss of a loved one through serious, life-threatening illness.

Jigsaw (South East) runs six-week Grief Support Groups that take place in #Guildford, #Reigate and #EastGrinstead. The groups help families to communicate about the person that has died and provide them with coping strategies for managing their feelings and emotions so that they develop into resilient young adults. For children especially, it can be hugely beneficial to be with others who are in a similar situation as themselves.
