County Durham Community Foundation

CDCF provides grants across County Durham and Darlington for grassroots community projects and individuals or families in crisis. We promote lasting giving by bringing together donors with their chosen causes, through well-targeted grants that make a genuine difference to the lives of local people.

Story

County Durham Community Foundation has today launched an Appeal to support farmers in County Durham as the extended bad weather conditions have created a major crisis in farming communities.

The lambing season has been severely affected, with sheep aborting or slipping lambs and sheep being in such a poor condition that they do not have sufficient milk to feed their young.

Farmers are now so behind with their day to day tasks due to the amount of time they are to having to focus on caring for young lambs and sheep, that they are now in crisis. Loss of livestock has contributed to their income levels falling rapidly and the resultant backlog of tasks proving overwhelming and giving rise to emotional problems.

Our Community Foundation is providing some initial funding to pay for a pool of qualified, insured and local farm workers who can give immediate support to those in need. However, we are also appealing for donations that can be matched to provide further support to these farming communities who need help NOW
