We raise funds and work across Borneo to save orangutans from extinction

Story

Hi Everyone!

I’m going wing walking on 19th June 2018!

I have always had a taste for adventure but being strapped on top of flying plane is probably the most challenging for my inner daredevil, but nevertheless I am very excited!

Over the years I have fundraised for various charities and this time I have chosen to try and raise money for the critically endangered orangutan.

Laura and I visited Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre in Borneo a few years ago and were blown away by the experience.

The Orangutan is found only in Borneo and Sumatra and their survival is constantly threatened by forest fires, tree felling, poaching and illegal hunting.

The centre welcomes orphaned, injured and rescued orangutans who are then trained how to survive in the rainforest, a learning process that can take years. Upon ‘graduation’ the rehabilitated orangutan are released into the surrounding rainforest.

I would be so grateful for any donations to go to Orangutan Appeal UK, a non-profit organisation who work on behalf of Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre as well as serving to provide assistance for projects involving conservation and public awareness of Orangutans in Borneo, Malaysia and Indonesia https://www.orangutan-appeal.org.uk/

I have paid for the experience in full so every penny donated will go directly to the charity.

Orangutan Appeal UK have provided me with some insight into how donations can help.

  • Baby orangutans are not weaned until they are 4 years old, so if they have lost their mother £5 will provide them milk for 2 weeks.

  • Orphaned orangutans are given bland food like bananas to encourage them to find food in the rainforests. £10 will pay for one months supply of bananas for an orangutan.

  • £20 will pay for one months supply of long beans, papaya and coconut for ex-captive and rehabilitated orangutan.

  • £50 can fund a research assistant for the ‘post release monitoring project’ to track rehabilitated orangutans in the Tabin Reserve.

  • £100 will cover the cost of veterinary care from a Malaysian Veterinary nurse for 2 weeks. The centre has also provided medical care to other wildlife species including; sun bears, gibbons, Sumatran rhinos and elephants.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read my page and any donation would be hugely appreciated.

Love
Felicity x
