I have suffered with my own Mental Health Eating Disorder, Anxiety and Depression and Still, too many people are made to feel ashamed or isolated because they have a mental health problem. Even I was turned away by my GP due to my problem 'not being visible'. because you CANT SEE Mental Health!
There is research to support the benefits of exercise in mental health yet gyms can be very daunting places to go to. Also if someone is suffering with Depression they are not motivated to get up and go to the gym.
By showcasing exercise outdoors in pubic to which anyone can join in, we are allowing the participants to feel energised and feel the endorphones that exercise can bring to your mood.
As a fitness professional in the local community, I am using my voice and holding space for on air at 91.8 Hayes fm to speak up about these issues, to raise awareness and make exercise/fitness/movement more inclusive and by doing so outside in the local community we will be able to help more people get involved.
