We want to create a special place in Nairn to thank the Community for their support.

Story

“One minute we’re having fun with a rock choir, the next we’re crawling on snow and ice at the end of a rope undergoing crevasse training in the freezing Cairngorms. Is climbing Mont Blanc really the natural progression from Sing for Hamish? “

In July, somewhere between 10th and 16th when weather allows, Mick Smerdon, Fiona Sellar and Tilo Phillips will attempt to climb Mont Blanc, Western Europe’s highest mountain, the summit of which sits 12,450 feet above the town of Chamonix, France.

Climbing partly at night to lessen the dangers, they will reach the summit by daybreak and descend to Chamonix later that day, traversing the highest mountain ridge in Europe. The fact that Mick may well be celebrating his 70th birthday on the mountain is an added bonus and an amazing achievement.

The real purpose of the climb is to raise money for #TeamHamish; to help the Hey family achieve their goal of creating a beautiful community area at Nairn sea front for local residents and visitors to enjoy, and as a thank you for all the love and support they have been shown during Hamish’s illness.

Mick, Fiona and Tilo decided that something huge and outlandish would be perfect to help raise funds for #TeamHamish. Susan and Sam have set themselves a huge challenge in making their goal into reality so what better than to climb this huge mountain to help the cause?

#TeamHamish will create something positive and exciting for Nairn. Throughout Hamish’s battle with cancer, they were truly overwhelmed by the love and support received from so many over the years, particularly from the Community of Nairn. They now want to thank the People of their Town. Their plan is to create special family spaces; places and areas for all ages and abilities to experience and enjoy. In doing this we will radiate the love that everyone holds for Hamish, ensuring that his memory lives on in this legacy for future generations.
