Story
Help me support St John so they can support more people like Richard.
Richard visited a popular wild swimming spot last summer. It was also part of the Norwich Triathlon.
It was 30°C, & the cold water looked inviting to Richard, he got in quickly & swam to the deeper part, he swam for 10–15 minutes.
Afterwards, Richard felt cold & had swollen hands – nothing unusual, he thought. But on the drive back, he suddenly felt very unwell. They pulled over, & he collapsed by the side of the road.
A triathlon runner helped, & a local brought blankets. But as RIchard said "it was a huge relief when St John Ambulance volunteers Andrew and Ben arrived". They assessed him, gave him oxygen, checked his heart, & realised he likely had hypothermia. A real danger, but they acted fast.
If St John Ambulance hadn’t been there, Richard says he "dreads to think what could’ve happened"
