Story

We're Stu, Ben, Jamie, Tom and Max the dog; the not so ‘Famous Five’. A small group of friends who also work together / have previously worked together, we share a love of good beer [making it, and drinking it!] and thought it'd be a good idea to go for a long walk along the Northumberland Coastal Path to raise some much needed funds for a worthwhile charity, while also challenging ourselves [and having some fun along the way].

So, who are we and what are we doing? A collective of brewers who could probably do with getting in some extra exercise; four of us work at Rooster’s Brewing Co., while the fifth member of our team, Ben, currently works for Saltaire Brewery having flown the Rooster’s coop a few years ago.

  • Stu Goddard – Production Manager [Rooster’s]
  • Ben Pearson – Production Manager [Saltaire]
  • Jamie McNamara – Trainee Brewer [Rooster’s]
  • Tom Fozard – Commercial Director [Rooster’s]
  • Max – Office Dogsbody [Rooster’s]

Over the festive period of 2021, Stu had been mulling over fundraising ideas, wanting to raise some money for a good cause, while at the same time wanting to accomplish something for himself. A long walk. It had to be achievable, and it was going to have to fit around work commitments. The Northumberland Coastal Path was ideal. Walkable in 4 days, a long weekend should do it! And what about some company? Friends? Colleagues? Both? The idea was hatched.

So the idea’s simple, we’ll walk the Northumberland Coastal Path – 100 km in length, over 4 days – and raise as much money as we can for an amazing charity. We’ll start in Cresswell on June 2nd and finish, all being well in Berwick- upon-Tweed on June 5th.

  • Cresswell to Alnmouth [25.6km]
  • Alnmouth to Seahouses [28km]
  • Seahouses to Fenwick [26.9km]
  • Fenwick to Berwick upon Tweed [19.5km]

We have decided to support Humankind, a wide ranging network of support and help with a whole host of issues – drug and alcohol recovery, health and wellbeing, housing related support, support for carers and families, vulnerable young people’s needs, employment and training support.

“Humankind is committed to reducing deprivation and exclusion and to improving people’s wellbeing.”

We are funding every aspect of the challenge ourselves [travel, accommodation, food and beer(s)!] to ensure every penny donated will go directly to Humankind.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
