Our son Cody was born in quite a traumatic way, getting stuck and the cord getting wrapped round his arm. His heart rate and my blood pressure plummeted and we were rushed in for an emergency C section after 4 hours in labour. Cody ingested meconium which caused him to have respiratory distress and suspected sepsis. We noticed breathing was clicking when we were in recovery and by the start of day 2, he was admitted to Buscot Ward. He was struggling to feed and needed to be tube fed for a short period. Thankfully he was given antibiotics and was only on Buscot ward for 2 days and we were discharged after 7 days.
While in Buscot the staff and facilities were phenomenal. They were calm and reassuring despite how challenging it must be caring for babies in special care. Cody was very lucky and at 9lbs 7 at birth he was practically a toddler compared to the tiny babies he shared a room with.
So having just had a baby, having long challenges with back injuries and pain and a hip injury discovered after Cody was born, I am taking on this 25km walk.
