Story

Thank you for visiting the Help for Heroes 'Flying For Freedom' - fundraising page. (All funds on this page are restricted to Flying for Freedom)

This summer's objective....

This July (2016) The Flying for Freedom Team will be flying around the UK to bring the opportunity of experiencing microlight flying to other wounded, injured and sick heroes.  The team are seeking to raise £25,000 to support this flight and help sustain flying training this year.

Our longer term objective...

In the longer term the Team are aiming to raise £800,000 to maintain the long term viability of the project and mount other more ambitious expeditions including being the first team to fly microlights to the South Pole.

A bit of background.....

Flying for Freedom is a project run by a team of wounded and injured heroes who have become pilots so that they can help others with injuries and disability learn to fly.

Supported by the Royal Foundation of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry through their Endeavor Fund, Flying for Freedom provides microlight flying training and recovery services. Wounded, Injured and Sick (WIS) servicemen and women are taught to fly and are encouraged to train towards becoming Assistant Flying Instructors (AFI).

Those who qualify take an active role in supporting recovery activities or progress on to careers in the aviation sector. The best way of looking at F4F is as a flying school for the disabled, staffed and run by wounded and injured servicemen and women.

Our long term aim is for a team of Flying for Freedom pilots to mount a daring expedition to Antarctica. They will take 4 microlights to Antarctica and make aviation history by being:

> First to fly flexwing microlights in Antarctica
> First to fly flexwing microlights to the South Pole
> First to fly over Mt Vinson the world's most remote mountain peak

"This is a very different challenge from all previous expeditions by wounded servicemen and women. The team is attempting a series of flying challenges and world firsts, that have never been tried or attempted before by the able bodied."

Your donation will help our team make history and make flight training for our wounded a permanent legacy for the future.

Flying replaces the freedom and self-esteem lost through injury. With your help, we can replace lost and broken limbs with wings!
