As you may know, on March 14th 2014 I am going to be shaving my head in an effort to raise money for the 'Alzheimers Society'. It is a big challenge for me, but a worthwhile one as the money raised will provide support for individuals, families and carers who either suffer with dementia or care for those who do. Alzheimers is a heartbreaking disease and almost everyone knows someone who suffers from it. 

There are 800,000 people with dementia in the uk with numbers set to rise to one million by 2021. The Society's fight for a better world for people with all types of dementia takes a wide range of forms. Through their network of local services, they touch the lives of over 30,000 people every week, providing practical services and support for people with dementia and their carers. 

Alzheimer's Society is an Organisation, which works to improve the quality of life of people affected by dementia in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. They are the leading support and research charity for people with dementia, their families and carers. 

The Alzheimers society provide local support with staff that provide both local information and over 2,000 services across England, Wales and Northern Ireland to people affected by dementia in their communities. Their local services include day care and home care for people with dementia, as well as support and befriending services to help partners and families cope with the demands of caring. From Alzheimer's Café's and innovative 'Singing for the Brain' sessions to memory-book projects and group outings, services provide both practical support and an essential point of human contact.
