Story

After the 8 Marathons, 3 continents in 20 days challenge,  Kieran Alger has handed over the baton to Tara House Montessori Nursery School to help raise money for the Tumaini Project.

Twinning to make a difference

Tara House is very proud to be twinned with Pepo la Tumaini and has pledged to pay a contribution towards its running costs for the next five years.

This page however is now dedicated to the extraordinary mothers and children of Tara House who have been tirelessly fundraising to help raise money to provide a much needed initial boost to fund essential equipment and clothes for these wonderful children.

You can support them, Kieran and Nadia by donating to help hit the £10,000 fund raising target. That's enough to change 1,000 lives.

Why Tumaini deserves your help

In June 2014, Kieran ran the Lewa Marathon in Kenya. As part of the trip Kieran and Nadia visited the Pepo La Tumaini school project, a wonderful place where Kenyan children suffering with, or orphaned by HIV, are able to find a place to be children. A safe place where they can learn the skills they need to cope with a life affected by one of the most devastating diseases on the planet.

We'll never forget the school. Or the children. Proud, intelligent, talented and full of life. The Tumaini Project helps these children develop into the inspiring individuals I met, through counseling, support and education. All on very tight resources.

One image from Tumaini has stayed with us. On a beaten up desk, there was an inch of pencil, sharpened and used right down to a stub. It was a symbol of dedication, commitment and perseverance. Everything you need to be a runner.

It was inspirational and off the back of that we decided to take do my something to help nurture that spirit.

Phase One: From the MDS to the Mall [Hit the link to read more]

In April 2015 Kieran took on and completed three of the world's most iconic races: the Marathon Des Sables, the Boston Marathon and the London Marathon. All in the space of 20 days.

First up was the six-day 156-mile slog across the Moroccan Sahara desert, known as the toughest footrace on earth. We carry everything we need to survive on our backs, up massive sand-dune mountains in temperatures up to 50 degrees. This is challenge enough for most people.

But seven days later he flew to Boston for the Boston Marathon and the challenge ended six days later when he ran the London Marathon.

It's was a total distance of around 208 miles across three continents in just three weeks.
