I am a volunteer at the Exmoor Pony Centre and I see the wonderful work that is being done there. The charity operates on a shoestring but over the past 10 years has managed to help hundreds of unwanted Exmoor foals to lead happy and useful lives.

NaNoWriMo stands for National Novel Writing Month. Every November lots of crazy people all over the world shut themselves away to write a 50,000 word novel in 30 days. Every year I think, 'I'll do that', and every year I've chickened out.

What I needed was an incentive. So this year I've pledged myself into a corner by signing up here to raise funds for the Exmoor Pony Centre.

Every winter, the charity needs to find around £5,000 just for winter feed and vet bills. Any contribution towards those costs would make such a difference and help enormously.

I can't guarantee to make the magic 50k words but I'm going to have a darned good try. I'm a short story writer - not a novelist, so this will be a huge challenge for me. Instead of my usual 2,000 words a week, I will need to write 2,000 words every day throughout November.
