Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Why am I running for The Migraine Trust? Well, it's a charity very close to my heart (and my head!!!).  I suffer with migraines, so does my sister and my dad and so did my nan - it's hereditary but anyone can get them (although mainly women - urgh!).

I get migraines a lot! They differ in severity each time but I can be in bed for 2-3 days a month at least. My triggers are usually hormonal, stress or lack of sleep but they can come on any time and anywhere. I've spent many a day on holiday (and even my honeymoon) in bed because of a migraine attack. I've even slept on a bench in the middle of Disneyworld to try and get rid of a migraine!!!!

I've tried so many different types of prevention medication that I've lost count. My latest one, doesn't seem to be doing the job unfortunately. We'll see. Apparently there are still a few more I can try - it's a trial and error thing!

My running doesn't seem to affect my migraines luckily. I know when I'm feeling like I might get a migraine and so I avoid a run if I'm feeling like I might have an attack. I don't seem to get one after a run thankfully.

With my running, I started with simple small runs just over a year ago. I wanted to show my children that I can still be active and so that they could see that I was trying to be as fit and healthy as possible amidst the migraines.

So back to why run a marathon in support of The Migraine Trust? Well, I like a challenge and thought it would be great if I could raise some money for The Migraine Trust as part of that.  And, wouldn't it be good to raise awareness too? Migraines are the most common and disabling neurological disorder in the UK and I want to help support a charity who are supporting people like me who suffer. The Migraine Trust fund research and campaign for people affected by migraines living in the UK. They also provide an information and support service. BUT, they receive no government funding so that's why raising money for this charity means a lot to me.

Please consider donating. There are so many people living with migraines in the UK. Lots of them worse in severity than mine and I can't imagine having to deal with migraines more frequently than I get them. There are so many tales of people losing their jobs, contemplating suicide, not wanting to leave the house in case of an attack. I can't believe it's not talked about more than it is!

Thanks for visiting my page and reading.

Thanks to my husband, children, mum and dad for their support with my running and for their help when I get a migraine.
