Brainbow at Addenbrookes Hospital, Cambridge is a unit that funds and provides a pioneering rehabilitation service in the East of England for all children with brain tumours. Brainbow is funded by charitable donations but is not a charity itself. Brainbow's aim is to help children with brain tumours reach their full potential.
The reason I am taking on this challenge to support Brainbow is because my daughter Grace, two years ago was diagnosed with a low grade glyoma which is a benign brain tumour in the centre of her brain. Grace is 9 years old. She has undergone a lumbar puncture, blood tests and a number of MRI scans and numerous check ups. She will continue to have MRI scans and check ups for the indefinite future. Graces tumour is in an area of the brain that renders it inoperable.
To help Grace and the family deal with what she is going through, we are under the expert care of Brainbow who have helped make the whole process more manageable and less stressful and scary for Grace.
All money raised will go directly to Brainbow. The money will fund equipment needed for children's assessments along with Christmas and Easter parties and the funlympics. The funlympics are the Olympics in the summer held for all children using Brainbow.
