In the UK someone dies from Mesothelioma every 5 hours. 

The morning of 6th November 2012, that was my mum, at the age of 62, 5 months after diagnosis. 

Mesothelioma is a relatively rare form of cancer that affects the membrane surrounding the lungs. Early diagnosis is difficult and mesothelioma has so far resisted most forms of chemotherapy and radiotherapy, hence prognosis is poor.

The big thing about Mesothelioma is it is preventable. The only known cause of the disease is exposure to Asbestos.

More than 5 years on from loosing my mum to Mesothelioma I'm going to run my first marathon knowing she is there with me every step of the way and probably wooping uncontrollably as I cross that finish line doing a little dance and saying cool dude.

I wanted to make the challenge not only mean something to me as a physical achievement but also raise some money for a fantastic charity that is making the world of difference to Mesothelioma sufferers and their families.

As well as fundraising I'm on a mission to get as many names as possible of fighters, survivors and past warriors of Mesothelioma to have on my kit when I run Southampton Marathon so they can be remembered. I can't think of anything that would motivate me more to get over that finish line than remembering all of those people.
