At the end of next month I have the unbelievable opportunity to climb Mount Kilimanjaro as part of an expedition raising money to support an orphanage in Kibera, the biggest slum in Nairobi and one of the largest urban slums in Africa.
Though the trek itself will be an incredible challenge, and a truly amazing experience, the focus of the trip is undeniably the work in Kibera, where we will be helping a woman called Margaret (and others like her) who looks after 13 children between the ages of 3 months and 8 years old who have no family or housing; they share a very basic hut with mud walls and floor - no beds, cots, blankets, toys or spare clothing. By sponsoring this trip your money will help to provide these things for Margaret, the children and many others, and we will be sourcing these items and installing them ourselves.
Those of you who know me will be only too aware that I'm not exactly the most active chap at the best of times (recent excersise has largely been limited to walking to the shops for more choc ices), and so the prospect of climbing with world's highest freestanding mountain is nothing if a little daunting, but I will give it my all to make it, and most importantly to be there to hopefully make a positive change for some young lives in unbelievably challenging circumstances - whatever you can give towards this, I'd be extremely grateful!
