Glasbury Arts is delighted to be coordinating this year’s bi-annual 'Celebration of Welsh Contemporary Painting' which is being put on across six venues in south, mid and west Wales starting in July and running through to the end of November.
The aim is to showcase the work of 36 artists including some of Wales most significant and best loved painters, many with international
reputations, working in our country. They include painters such as Shani Rhys James, Alan Salisbury, Charles Burton - the Elder Statesman of current Welsh painters, Sally Mathews (both a sculptor
and painter), Alan Salisbury, Glenys Cour, Cherry Pickles and Kate Freeman, plus those who are likely to be the next successful generation.
Looking to the future we will also include some of our best students
from fine art courses from two colleges (Merthyr and Pembrokeshire), pupils from Gwernyfed State High School which has one of the best visual arts departments in the country as well as a stunning painter, a
Congolese refugee, who fled in fear of his life and is now living in
Wales.
The participating venues are, Cyfarthfa Castle Museum and Gallery Merthyr Tydfil; Redhouse Gallery, Merthyr Tydfil; The Andrew Lamont Gallery, Brecon; Oriel-y -Parc, St David’s; Pembrokeshire FE College Haverfordwest and The Futures Gallery, Pierhead Building in Cardiff.
Glasbury Arts is a small community arts charity in mid-Wales and our task in relation to this series of exhibitions includes promoting them through national media and social media, assisting with curating exhibitions in two of the galleries and managing any necessary transportation of arts works that is needed. Some of the work can be done by our enthusiastic volunteers but we still need to raise £6000 to cover additional, costs. We already have £1000, thanks to a generous donation from Trish and John Richardson in remembrance of
Les Newton, Clyro, who supported the Arts in Wales but now we are trying to raise the rest.
Please help with
any donation that you can afford.
Thank You.
