You may have a chronic disease, but it doesn't define you

I have grown up as a healthy, lively very sporty person, as far as I can remember I was exercising on a daily basis. Sport was a kind of addiction for my competitive personality… to be better, to achieve.

It’s started with an innocent cough which lasted too long… breathing become an issue, even just taking the stairs. Exercise become impossible… I didn’t think this would ever happen to me.

The diagnosis took nearly 2 years, but after 2 operations I was fixed… so they thought. I still wasn’t able to take the stairs without getting out of breath.

New appointments discovered I not only have one but two rare conditions.

After 5 years I can say I have my condition under control, I have learned the ups and downs.

I have decided to set myself a challenge again

My body will do what My mind decides

To test my fitness, I have gone for a run… I am not going to lie, it was hard, I was shaking, my body felt weak, but my mind felt stronger.

My disease will not define me, my actions will

In support of a local charity I have signed up to my first ever sea swim to conquer my fears and show strength for everyone who is a daily warrior of a chronic illness.

Today,I will raise the bar a little higher…

My condition force me to cancel this week’s charity swim, but my mind hasn’t rested since… I am not willing to give up. I will be even braver with my new challenge, not just SWIM, but CYCLE and RUN.

I have booked myself to do my first ever Triathlon in Torbay this September, however I have to allow myself a little recovery period for now (please bear with me for further update), training should start soon...
