Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our Just Giving page.

Well, we managed to get round!!  The weather was fantastic on Sunday, the crowds were unbelievably enthusiastic and numbered over 2 million, and we hit the start line with 52,000 other runners on Staten Island.  Unfortunately I (Grant) was full of flu / cold / cough and really struggled - and one of our fellow runners’ (Tim Morris) knee went after mile 8 ... so it was a real challenge to complete and the time reflected this at 5 hours and 23 minutes.  Bruce Murray was much quicker at 3.58 - breaking his four hours target which was a great achievement. Anyway, the important thing is that all three of us made it round in one piece and lived to tell the tale.  We would recommend the experience to anyone...

Thanks to everyone who found the time to donate. Looks like we will raise
around £30,000 in total between the three of us including gift aid - so we are
absolutely delighted, as are our two chosen charities, Maggie’s and the
Prince’s Trust.

Thanks again.  It is hugely appreciated.

Best , Grant and Bruce

Grant Berry and Bruce Murray will be running in the New York Marathon on 3 November 2019. For Grant, it’s his fifth (and last?) marathon and for Bruce it’s his second having completed London in 2008.

Training started late last year, and it’s fair to say that it has been gruelling, especially in the last few weeks with the runs extending to 14 - 21 miles. We’re aiming for personal bests - though perhaps that’s more than a little optimistic!  What we’re completely certain about is that it’s for a great cause - Maggie’s Manchester.

Unfortunately, we have all known people close to us whom we have lost to cancer, or who have been through, or are going through, the devastating emotional challenges, treatment and long term impact that cancer brings.  In the grounds of The Christie, Maggie's Manchester is a place anyone affected by cancer can go and get the support they need, right when they need it most.  It might be how to tell the kids or help getting money to pay the mortgage, or support dealing with the loss of a loved one.  Maggie's Manchester is a truly amazing place and receives over 20,000 visits each year.

We are also running with Tim Morris who’s fundraising for both Maggie’s and the Prince’s Trust (where he’s been a member of their fundraising committee for the past five years). So between the three of us, we’re fundraising for two great causes.

We would all be very grateful indeed for any support you’re prepared to give.  Many thanks.  We’ll report back on how we do!
