We fund research into muscle-wasting to improve the lives of everyone affected.

Story

On June 24th 2018, I will be taking part in the Nice Ironman to support the brilliant charity Muscular Dystrophy UK. This year, with my colleagues at SOHO, we are aiming to raise £10,000 which is enough to provide six children with powered wheelchairs.

An Ironman is a gruelling endurance triathlon which includes a 3.8km sea swim (the same as 76 lengths of the 50m Cheltenham Lido) before a 180km cycle (the distance from Cheltenham to London). It then finishes (you off) with a full distance marathon of 42km! The video gives a flavour of the event: https://youtu.be/sW_fAwSiN3s

If I manage to stay on track with my training, I hope to cross the finish line in around 12.5 hours. To achieve this, I am regularly enduring some chilly swims at the Cirencester lakes to practice my open water swimming, as well as putting in the time in long runs and bike rides. The Ironman will take me to the limit, but to make matters worse, my performance will be intensely critiqued by my in-laws: both Ironman World Champions themselves...

To help my get around I would be extremely grateful for any support for this incredible charity. Muscular Dystrophy UK leads the fight against muscle-wasting conditions affecting around 70,000 children and adults in the UK. I hope to raise £500 which will help pay for a child's electric wheelchairs.

Thank you

Guy
