We are here for every cat to keep them happy, healthy and safe.

Story

Leo was brought into care along with his three brothers at approximately 4 weeks old. They were born under a shed and were all suffering with severe cat flu.

After an initial vet check and treatment, the boys were lovingly hand reared by one of our dedicated foster carers.

Despite intense nursing and treatment, each of Leo's brothers had to have one eye removed as the flu symptoms had caused them to rupture. At this point Leo was deemed the 'lucky' one. His eyes were fine!

However, as time went on and the brothers flourished, Leo was still displaying respiratory issues. After several courses of different antibiotics failed to clear the problem, it became apparent that there was something other than cat flu going on.

He was then assessed and x-rayed by alphavet veterinary practice and diagnosed with a very rare condition. Persistent Right Aortic Arch. Which means his Aorta (the main blood vessel from the heart) had developed on the wrong side of his chest. Because of this a small fibrous band between this and another major blood vessel caused a constriction of his oesophagus, making it difficult for him to swallow.

He was then referred to a specialist at Rowe Veterinary Bristol. On Wednesday 27th September 2017 little Leo (now 3 months old) had surgery to cut the band and free his oesophagus. He is recovering extremely well. He really is a lucky boy.

We are extremely grateful to Rowe Veterinary Group for giving us over 50% discount. However, this saving operation and the associated aftercare costs has still made a big dent in our funds and we would really appreciate any contributions to help us cover it.

For information, if we are fortunate enough to raise above the target set. Any additional monies will be used to provide care, treatment and supplies to other cats and kittens in our care.
