Story
I will be running the virtual London Marathon with my friend Sarah Brigden...
In 2013 Mum died aged 60 from Young onset dementia.. It was devastating to see her slip away and not recognise me, not able to talk to her about my life, as I know she would have asked a 100 questions.
Mum was a Nurse all her working life. She was a fantastic, gentle, warm, caring and compassionate Nurse. In the 1970’s worked in Lister Hospital Theatre Department, many years at Hitchin Hospital and had managed Westbourne Care Home.
During last year of her life she was admitted into Lister Hospital numerous times with dehydration and falls. It was heartbreaking that staff didn't know her before dementia. I sat at her bedside devastated nothing could be done for her and from that moment determined to do something in her memory.
Fast forward 6 years and I am now the Admiral Nurse (Dementia Lead) for the Trust with a passion to improve care, education and support families on admission into Hospital- to ensure they receive vital support and referred to our community Admiral Nurse teams.
I am running the London Marathon to raise valuable funds and raise awareness for families living with Dementia.
I am fundraising for the East and North Hertfordshire hospitals charity! The charity supports the four hospitals within the East and North Hertfordshire Trust- Lister Hospital, The New QEII, Hertford County and Mount Vernon Cancer Centre, helping them to go above and beyond for patients and their loved ones. The charity funds the purchase of new specialist equipment, extra staff training, research and projects to enhance patient experience. You make the difference! Donate today!
