On the 29th of July I'll be taking part in the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100. 100 miles starting at the Olympic Park heading out of London into the Surrey countryside including the infamous Box Hill before heading back into London for a finish on the Mall.
Anthony Nolan saves the lives of people with a blood cancers and blood disorders. They match incredible individuals willing to donate their stem cells, to people who desperately need lifesaving transplants. And before you think of drills into hip bones that's not the case! Most stem cell donors donate peripherally. They have injections a few days before their donation to build up the stem cell levels in their blood. Then they're hooked up to a machine, their blood goes out, the stem cells are filtered, and then the blood is returned back to them. It's similar to donating platelets.
It takes 60 quid to add a donor onto the national register. So my minimum target will fund the addition of 10 new donors. That's 10 lives saved.
Anthony Nolan also carry out cutting edge scientific research, fund specialist post-transplant nurses and support patients and their families through the transplant process and beyond. They won’t stop until they save the lives of everyone who needs a stem cell transplant. Every penny you donate brings them closer to that day.
