Story

Welcome to our epic 123 hour glass-box challenge to raise more acceptance and understanding of autism, one of the most prevalent disabilities in the UK!

Who are we? We are Hayley and Donna, very best friends and workmates from Crewe!

What are we doing? We will be putting our lives on hold for 125 hours to live inside a 3m x 2m glass box. We will eat, sleep, work and play inside the transparent structure, relying on very little more than our sleeping bags and public support to get us through. Mobile phones, recorded music  and gadgets are banned inside the box, although we are allowed 1 book and writing materials. We are hoping to raise £5,000 for local autistic children.

WHY are we doing this? The glass box is a metaphor for autism - many parents of autistic children have liken the condition to 'living in a glass box' - the isolation, communication problems, invisible restrictions and felling of 'being trapped' are often associated with the condition.

We also have friends and colleagues on the autism spectrum, and most of them agree that more attention needs to be focused on autism, to help educate the public with what living with the condition is like, and the support offered by Caudwell Children. We are hoping to capture the imagination of the public and Press!

Where and When? The glass box will be situated in the foyer of the Tesco Extra store on Vernon Way in Crewe, and we will be in full view of the public 24/7. We will enter the box at 11am on Monday 23rd November, and, if successful will leave at 2pm on Saturday 28th November 2015 - 123 hours later!

How Can I Support? We are hoping to raise £5,000 for Caudwell Children and the support they give to autistic children and their families.
